New York US and State Routes in 1970

The following is a listing of the state touring route system in the southern portion of New York State as it was in 1970. Differences between the system then and now are noted. At the time, NY 433, NY 448, NY 454 and NY 878 did not yet exist. NY 113, NY 115, NY 132A, NY 307, and NY 495, which existed at the time, have been decommissioned. Sections of NY 119, NY 128, NY 137, NY 208, and NY 210 were also decommissioned. The routes of NY 9A, NY 24, NY 27, and NY 27A have been modified. A new segment, the Glen Cove Arterial Highway, was added to NY 107 since 1970. NY 32 was extended along Burgoyne Avenue to end at NY 196. There were proposals to extend NY 135 south to the Wantagh Parkway and to extend NY 347 west to the Long Island Expressway (I-495). These were never built and the proposed segments were decommissioned.
