Note on Nassau County Routes: When the federal government instituted standards for county route signs, Nassau did not have enough money to pay for the new signs necessary to comply. Therefore, all county route signs in Nassau were taken down and all county routes are unsigned. Even though a number of county roads in Nassau have route numbers, there are no signs that make reference to them anywhere. There are currently two sets of route numbers for county roads in Nassau. One set is recognized by the New York State Department of Transportation and is referenced in documents from the state. These numbers are used on this web site. An alternative set of route numbers is recognized by Nassau County but not actually used other than in an atlas kept by the NCDPW that cannot be reproduced.
