April 1, 2006 The NYSDOT has just released plans for improvements to the road network on Long Island. The Long Island Expressway (I-495) will be extended east along the North Fork to Orient Point, where the Sound Crossing will be constructed. I-495 will end at I-95 in Rhode Island on the other side. Also, a tunneled expressway similar to I-93 in Boston will be constructed from the Lincoln Tunnel to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel, providing for a continuous I-495 from the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) to I-95 in Rhode Island. Furthermore, Sunrise Highway (NY 27) will converted to a limited-access highway from the Belt Parkway to Babylon-Farmingdale Road (NY 109). More information can be found here. The roads section has been arranged into subsections, new sections with route listings and official documents have been added, and a number of miscelleneous corrections have been made.
