I-278 Staten Island Expressway, Verrazano Bridge, Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, Triboro Bridge, Bruckner Expressway

The ramp for exits 35W-E when travelling east splits. Bear left for the Long Island Expressway (I-495) westbound. Bear right for 48 Street. Continue straight for the Long Island Expressway (I-495) eastbound.

The roadway for the unnumbered exit on the Triboro Bridge passes through a toll barrier. There is an exit for Randalls Island and Wards Island after the toll. The roadway then crosses one of the Triboro Bridge's three spans from Randalls Island to Manhattan. On the other side, it splits. Bear left for the FDR Drive or bear right for the Harlem River Drive, 2 Avenue, and East 125 Street.

Traffic from exit 4 of the Grand Central Parkway is routed onto a separate spur of I-278 known as the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway East. Exit 43 is for 30 Avenue and Northern Boulevard (NY 25A). It is accessible only from this spur. The spur merges into the mainline of I-278 just before exit 40.
