Merrick Road begins at the Queens-Nassau county line where Merrick Boulevard ends. It runs to the east. In Rockville Centre, it crosses Sunrise Highway (NY 27). From this point east, it is the southernmost east/west route in Nassau County. Just west of the Nassau-Suffolk county line, it intersects Carman Mill Road (NY 27A) and takes on the NY 27A designation. When Merrick Road crosses the Nassau-Suffolk county line, CR 27 ends. Many years ago, the entirety of Merrick Road used to be designated NY 27A.
