US 9 in New Jersey begins in Cape May, the southernmost point in the state, where
there is a ferry to Lewes, Delaware. It runs north along the Jersey Shore,
parallel to the Garden State Parkway (NJ 444). In Woodbridge, US 9 merges with
US 1. The two routes are multiplexed from this point all the way into New York.
In Newark, US 1/US 9 curves to east. A long bridge known as the Pulaski Skyway
crosses the Passaic River and the Hackensack River to Jersey City. On the other
side, US 1/US 9 turns north and follows Tonnelle Avenue, Bergen Turnpike, and
Broad Avenue. In Fort Lee, US 1/US 9 merges with the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95).
The three routes are multiplexed across the George Washington Bridge to New York.
