Atlantic Avenue Direction: East/West Western Terminus: Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (I-278) in Brooklyn Eastern Terminus: Van Wyck Expressway (I-678) in Queens Atlantic Avenue is a major east/west route in Brooklyn. It begins at the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (I-278) near the East River. It runs west into Queens and ends at the Van Wyck Expressway (I-678). The entire length is a four- to six-lane road. The section east of Flatbush Avenue is divided. In certain areas of Brooklyn, there are elevated subway tracks in the center.
