I-678 Van Wyck Expressway, Whitestone Expressway, Whitestone Bridge

Miscellaneous Views (Archived)

These signs used to mark the ramp from exits 13A-D for the Whitestone Expressway to the Grand Central Parkway. All of them have been replaced. At the time, there was a single exit 13 leading to the ramp and the exits from the ramp were unnumbered. This ramp was built to be part of the Astoria Expressway, an expressway from the Whitestone Expressway to the RFK Bridge (I-278), which was then known as the Triboro Bridge, along the right-of-way of Astoria Boulevard. This expressway was never built and almost certainly never will be built. The empty space at the top of the last sign for Astoria Boulevard was reserved for an interstate shield.
