Northern Terminus: Dyckman Street and 10 Avenue in Manhattan
The Harlem River Drive is an extension of the FDR Drive into the northern portion
of Manhattan. The FDR Drive becomes the Harlem River Drive at the RFK Bridge
(I-278). It runs north along the Harlem River. There is an exit for the George
Washington Bridge (I-95/US 1/US 9) near the northern terminus. The Harlem River
Drive ends a little over a mile north of the bridge at Dyckman Street and
10 Avenue.
The Harlem River Drive was originally built as the Harlem River Speedway, a
racetrack for horses. It was later converted into a highway for automobiles.
