These pictures show Northern Boulevard in Bayside prior to the installation of many of the oversized street name signs. At that time, there were only signs at Bell Boulevard and 221 Street.

A few years later, the remainder of the oversized street name signs had been installed. However, the road surface still had the white zebra stripes that were used in New York City at the time. They have since been repainted yellow for consistency with the convention used elsewhere.

These signs used to mark the intersection with Port Washington Boulevard (NY 101). They have been replaced with new signs that give the street name as well as the route name and that also instruct motorists to turn right for Searingtown Road (CR 101) and the Long Island Expressway (I-495).

During the reconstruction of the Roslyn Viaduct, which lasted from 2006 until 2011, temporary signs were posted along the section of Northern Boulevard before the viaduct to advise motorists of the work zone ahead.

These photos show the Roslyn Viaduct during the first phase of its reconstruction, which lasted from 2006 through 2009. During this phase, half of the original viaduct was demolished to make room for the half of the new viaduct that was constructed during this time. The remaining half was divided into three lanes (in the space where there were previously only two). The middle lane was reversible to accommodate traffic flow. Temporary traffic lights overhead indicated which lane or lanes to use for each direction.

These photos show the Roslyn Viaduct during the second phase of its reconstruction, which lasted from 2009 through 2010. During this phase, traffic was routed across the half of the new viaduct that was completed during first phase, while the remaining half of the original viaduct was torn down and the second half of the new viaduct was built in its place. The temporary traffic lights were moved to the new viaduct for this phase.

These photos show the Roslyn Viaduct as its reconstruction was nearing completion. Both halves of the viaduct were open and the temporary traffic lights had been removed, but the lanes were still very narrow and there was no shoulder.

These old signs used to mark the Town of Oyster Bay, the Village of Upper Brookville, and the Village of Oyster Bay Cove on Northern Boulevard. All three have been replaced.

Until 2008, the speed limit on Northern Boulevard in the Town of Oyster Bay was 55 MPH. It has since been lowered to 50 MPH.
