Exit 57 is for the McCarter Highway (NJ 21) north. Exit 58 is for US 1/US 9, US 22, and the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95).

The free portion of I-78 ends here at the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95). There is a tollbooth. All motorists who do not have E-ZPass must stop and take a ticket indicating where they got onto the turnpike. After the toll, the highway splits. Bear left to remain on I-78, which continues straight ahead as the Newark Bay Extension of the turnpike. Bear right for the mainline of the turnpike.
